MODUL's history dates back to 1900, when the German engineer Hermann Pfauter patented the hobbing process technology. On this basis, he established a gear machine tool manufacturing plant in Chemnitz, whose products gained wide popularity in European and American markets. In 1951, the former Pfauter plant was restructured into "VEB Zahnschneidemaschinenfabrik Modul" and products have been sold under the "MODUL" brand ever since.
